Jay Shafer paraphrases Shakespeare by saying, the only person you need to be true to is yourself. Living Large looks different for every single one of us.

Although we don’t have a lot of space in Our Little House, we had the foresight to design two deep closets (one pantry in the living/kitchen space and one in our bedroom) where we can store shoes and folded clothes. Our bedroom closet is even deep enough to allow for storage of plastic bins containing off-season clothes.

However, many tiny homes don’t have that luxury. Ramona and Carlo DeAngelus, who live near Asheville, North Carolina, didn’t incorporate any closet space into the design of their tiny home. They decided against having them take up space in their home and planned to store clothes in a separate building. “We brought with us a storage shed where we put our clothes, dresser, and our washer and dryer,” says Ramona. While they do have to go outside to access the other building, it is mere steps from their tiny home, so Ramona finds it isn’t a problem.

“We really don’t mind the arrangement, it gives us more room for actual living instead of closet space in our tiny home,” she says.
